# Overview

> Connect to Effective and use the public V2 API from your applications and agents.

Effective is a workspace for insurance teams and their agents to research products, filings, and
markets, and keep the source material connected to the work. This documentation explains how to
connect to Effective and use the public API. It is not a catalog of all product features.

## Choose a starting point

* **New to Effective?** You need access to an Effective workspace before you can create an API
  key. If your organization already uses Effective, ask your workspace administrator for access.
* **Ready to connect an application?** Follow [Quickstart](/getting-started/quickstart) to create a
  user API key and verify the tenant associated with that key.
* **Using an AI agent?** Give the agent the [documentation index](/llms.txt) and the
  [agent guide](/getting-started/using-with-agents). Provide the credential through a secure
  environment or secret store, not in a prompt or transcript.

## What is available through the public API?

The production V2 base URL is `https://effectiveai.app/api/v2`.

<Note>
  The public V2 API is in preview. The currently documented operation is `GET /users/me`, which
  verifies the authenticated user and tenant. Additional operations appear in the API reference only
  when their public contracts are available. Preview contracts may change.
</Note>

The browser workspace, agent tools, and internal APIs are distinct from the public V2 API. Do not
assume a feature visible in the workspace has a corresponding public V2 endpoint.
